It’s official: I’ve finished my first eBook! The sense of accomplishment is pretty surreal. It feels like just yesterday I was staring at a blank document, wondering where to begin, and now I have a completed book ready to share with the world. For someone with ADHD, the idea of actually finishing a project can often seem like a dream rather than a reality. But I’m here to tell you that it can be done.
Writing About What I Know
My first eBook focuses on practical tips and strategies for managing ADHD. It’s all the things I wish I had known sooner, broken down in a way that’s easy to digest and in short chapters. I wanted to create a guide that feels like a conversation with a friend—one who understands the chaos of an ADHD brain and knows how hard it can be to find the right tools and strategies. This isn’t just a collection of tips I pulled from a Google search; it’s based on my own experiences and the techniques that have actually made a difference for me.
The process wasn’t easy. There were moments when I was tempted to scrap the whole thing and start something new (hello, hyperfocus and shiny new ideas!), but I pushed through. Finishing this eBook has shown me that even with ADHD, it’s possible to see a project through to the end—especially if it’s something you’re passionate about.
The Next Chapter: Diving Deeper into Late Diagnosis and Perimenopause
As soon as I hit 'save' on the final draft, I realised I wasn’t quite done with my writing journey. In fact, I’m already about 9,000 words into my second book! This next one takes a deep dive into a topic that is very personal to me: late diagnosis ADHD and perimenopause. It’s a combination that many people don’t talk about, but it’s a huge part of my life and something that I think deserves more attention.
Navigating ADHD as an adult is already tricky, but throw perimenopause into the mix, and it’s a whole new ballgame. The symptoms can overlap, blur together, and leave you feeling like you’re spiralling. My aim with this second book is to provide validation, support, and practical advice for women who find themselves dealing with both. I want to explore the challenges, but also highlight the strategies that can help us thrive during this phase of life.
Ideas, Ideas, and More Ideas!
If you’d asked me a year ago, I wouldn’t have imagined I’d have one book done and another well underway. And now, I already have an idea for a third book! It seems like once I opened the floodgates, the ideas just kept coming and the blogs were also flowing.
I won’t give too much away just yet, but let’s just say the third book is going to focus on navigating ADHD in the workplace. I’ve had a lot of personal experience here and have spoken with many others who have struggled with the same issues. This will be written from a HR professional with ADHD point of view. From managing time and staying organised to handling social interactions and burnout within a business, there’s a lot to unpack. I’m excited to delve into this next project and share even more of what I’ve learned along the way.
What I’ve Learned So Far
Looking back, I think the biggest takeaway from this whole process has been the importance of self-belief. It’s easy to get caught up in self-doubt and imposter syndrome, especially when you have ADHD. The voice in your head telling you that you’ll never finish, that no one will care about what you have to say, can be loud and persistent. But I’ve learned to quiet that voice, even if just for a moment, to focus on why I started this journey in the first place: to share my experiences and help others who might be feeling the same way.
Finishing my first eBook has given me a boost of confidence and a sense of validation that I didn’t even know I needed. It’s a reminder that I can do this—that my voice matters, and that there are people out there who might find value in my story. Even if it helps just one person, it’s a massive win for me.
What’s Next?
For now, I’m taking a brief moment to celebrate this achievement (and my 40th Birthday in Prague) before diving back into writing. If you’ve been following along on this journey with me, thank you for your support. It means the world to know that there are people out there cheering me on.
Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to work on my second book and start planning for the third. And if you’re someone who’s been thinking about starting a project but feels overwhelmed by the idea of finishing it, let me be the proof that it’s possible. It might take longer than you planned, and it might feel impossible at times, but if you keep going, you will get there.
Until next time, keep dreaming big and taking small steps. Every little bit counts, and you never know where those steps might lead you.
